Cover on every trip.
Passenger cover is on the bill of every trip, not an extra you have to remember to add. Drivers are offered cover of their own, and choose what they want.
The passenger's cover
Charged at ₦350 a trip and passed to the underwriter in full. It is a levy rather than a fare: MyKaab collects it and remits it, and keeps none of it.
Why it is the same everywhere
The rate card changes by class of car, and a state can be given rates of its own. The cover does not change either way. A passenger’s cover costs the underwriter the same in Kano as in Lagos, so charging more for it in one place would be a markup rather than a premium.
What it is not
It is not motor insurance for the vehicle, and it does not replace the cover a driver is required to carry on their own car. Vehicle papers are checked before a driver takes a trip, and again when they expire — that is a separate thing from this, and both exist.
Making a claim
Start from the trip. Every trip has a record with its own reference, the driver, the vehicle and the route, and a claim is raised against that reference rather than against a date and a memory. Contact the safety desk from the trip screen, or by email, and quote the trip.
The driver's cover
Offered to approved drivers, and charged only to a driver who has switched it on. Paid through the monthly subscription rather than taken out of each fare.
Optional, and meant it
These three were once taken from every fare. They are not any more. A deduction on top of a subscription already paid reads as a commission by another name, and a driver who has not asked for pension contributions should not find them on a statement.
Switch one off and it costs nothing. Switch one on and it is charged at the rate above, monthly, through the subscription.
The pension
A contribution needs a registered administrator before it can be remitted, so a driver who opts in is contributing into an arrangement with a named administrator rather than into a balance MyKaab holds.
