Built with the union, not around it.
MyKaab operates the technology with the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria. The platform runs the technology; the union keeps authority over its own members.
How membership works
The union decides
its own roll.
A driver declares membership, and only a chapter officer can confirm it. MyKaab never issues a union card and cannot add somebody to the union.
Confirmation is an officer’s act, recorded against the officer who made it. The platform stores the confirmation; it does not grant it.
Member numbers combine the union, the state and a serial, so an officer can read one at a park and check the format on the spot.
From declaration to confirmation
Four steps, and the second one is not ours to take.
A driver declares union membership
A chapter officer confirms it
MyKaab checks the confirmed membership
The union retains authority over its members
Why it is arranged this way
A platform that could confirm its own drivers’ union membership would be deciding who is in the union, which is the union’s business and not a technology company’s. So the confirmation is an officer’s, and the record says which officer made it.
It also means a driver has two separate things to satisfy, and they are checked by two different parties:
- Documents — driver licence and vehicle papers, checked by MyKaab before the first trip and again at expiry.
- Membership — declared by the driver, confirmed by an AUATON chapter officer.
Neither substitutes for the other. A driver with current papers and no confirmed membership is not a confirmed member, and a confirmed member with expired papers cannot go online.
